Ciara Chanell Howard is only 10 yet she has an incredible spirit and passion for helping others. What started out as Ciara’s desire to donate her dresses to children with cancer, manifested into an highly anticipated annual fundraiser for children affected by cancer. Private philanthropic support has become increasingly important to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The funds raised through this event annually support The Children’s Joy Fund. Contributions to the Children’s Joy Fund provide support to Child Life and Recreational Program which serves over 200 children and young adults each day on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Multiple programs are provided for all age ranges, including patient education, arts and crafts, music, group games, holiday and birthday parties, cooking group and other activities. Donations to The Joy Fund promotes social and emotional growth for all our patients while they undergo intensive treatment. Other activities supported by the Children’s Joy Fund include the Pediatric Spring Prom.
